Snow crash is a good example of a very detailed and realistic but very colourful and exciting tale about the future. I would say that his follow-up novel, The Diamond Age, which goes into the possibilities of nanotechnology and not just virtual reality, is actually even a better novel about thefuture. So it's a very, very colourful tale.
