The Catholic Culture Podcast

CHAPTER

The Intentional Fallacy in Art

In a religious context to Catholic artists writing about the attempt to convey something of the supernatural by, you know, sort of means of material things, it kind of makes you aware that you're not in control of the process. But what's interesting is that even the author was a painter or a composer doesn't have complete authority over what goes into the work, even though he's a vessel of it. And so he's only half the authority of his own work because there's so much coming from elsewhere and above all, as a gift from God.
