The Importance of Having a Circadian Clock

The original function of your eyes, which are actually a little piece of your brain that is intentionally outside your skull, is not to see. The longer you've been in the dark and you've been asleep, the more susceptible this clock is to shifting. Circadian just means 24 or about 24 hours. It's setting a timer for when you're going to be sleepy and want to go into deep sleep 12 to 15 hours later. That stimulus of either bright sunlight or sunlight through clouds or even artificial lights is powerful. If I look outside and I get lots of sunlight in my eyes, it's not really going to impact my circadian clock.
