Leaving out inappropriate dialogue tag modifiers is the easiest way to instantly become a better dialogue writer. A dialogue tag is she said in this sentence, quote, I don't have the key, end quote, she said or he asked in this sentence. Where is the boat? He asked. We should try to increase our chance of writing a novel that will be published. And to do that, give it a label of genre and follow the ideas in that genre that have worked time and time again.
