There was a full fledged movement that nearly took us to the brink of collapse if they had succeeded in their plot. And like you said, this huge mass movement that had popular support. It wasn't just them. I mean, the Christian friends, mostly Catholic father, Collagen as a Catholic priest, the Klan is very, very anti Catholic. Well, you had a violent fascist plot to overthrow the US government right after the 1940 election as well. You also had the silver shirt movement, which was kind of a middle class movement started by this successful Hollywood screenwriter. They were acquitted.
