The Effects of Methane Hydrates on the Climate

Methane hydrates are pretty interesting because there's so much of them and they're sort of mysterious. There are times when they have impacted the climate, and I should just point out one. The Paleocene Eocene Thermal Maximum was a very sudden change in temperature that lasted for about a thousand years. And people wonder what caused it; two competing theories are carbon dioxide from volcanoes or methane from a methane burp.
