Gravity's Rainbow: A Difficult Book
The U shape idea going back to that reminds me of some right now I'm rereading Gravity's Rainbow, which is sort of a famously difficult book. If you just go with it and enjoy it for what it is rather than trying to stuff it into a story structure, then it becomes. not difficult at all. It becomes a playful thing that just kind of pulls you along. The entire book is about rockets being fired by Germany onto London, onto Britain; the title is describing the parabolic arc of a rocket. And so the narrative structure, the picture of it, forms the same shape as the thing that the entirebook is about.
