The egg donation industry is so lucrative in part because unlike in other countries, there are few government regulations. There are no federal laws or policies to protect egg donors. Some donors told me that even though they're undergoing a procedure, they don't always feel like the patient. The focus tends to be on the people buying the eggs on the intended parents.
