What Story Did You Embrace About God?
I grew up in a Methodist context until I was 15 and then in an independent charismatic church beyond that. There were lots of kind of openhearted, common good oriented elements to that. And it was still touched with this puritanism and this kind of, you might call it judgmentalism. It's sort of a them and us way of thinking about the world. So within that context, what story did you inherit about God, about the church, about who you were as a person? From my grandmother, God was warm and caring and was with you in the suffering and Jesus was magnificent but also very ordinary.
