The Legend of Zelda

The development of the game itself began in 1984 for the Famicom Disk System. It was originally intended to be the launch game for that system. The programming, though, would be done by Toshihiko Nakago and the manual written by Kaiji Terui. In Zelda, because it was non-linear, you had to stop and think about what you were doing. You have to actually go acquire the very thing that made the game playable.
