The card was designed by Apple mostly to sell Apple hardware. Goldman wanted to be a major force in consumer finance and they wound up saying like teaming up with Apple the amazing Apple would be a great way of doing this. And it turns out they turned out you know what they wound up doing was allowing a bunch of not rich people to buy phones and then a bunch of those not rich people wound up defaulting on those loans, causing Goldman credit losses.
