The hypothalamus sends a specific hormone known as corticotropin releasing hormone or CRH, which signals to the pituitary gland. The pituitary in response sends another type of hormone known as ACTH or adrenocortotropic hormone. And then ACTH gets into the bloodstream and signals to the adrenocland, which is like a tiny,. well, it's not that small. It's a gland that sits right in behind your kidneys.
