The inferior or fourth function is fully immersed in the unconscious, and can only be partially integrated. Jungian analyst Mary-Louis von Franz writes: "What you need most is always to be found where you least wish to look" If someone is an introverted feeling type, he or she can be very attracted by extroverted thinking types. It is common for a person to have a relationship with the opposite type so that one is momentarily freed from confronting one's own inferior function.
