Is There a Need to Distinguish?
The use of the singular they that one grinds my gears. I get the need for a gender neutral third person singular. The he the she you don't want to keep saying he she and you can't say it if you want to speak generically about a person. And so people are using they the problem of course is they is the plural. So here in the Pittsburgh area, when you mean you more than one person, it's yuns in the South,. It's y'all other places, it's you all there are other variations.
