Premature Optimization Through to Volleyball

Once you start getting into performance optimization inevitably you end up having to look under the covers, like just peel back the layers. I definitely sometimes feel like there's a bit of a curse involved because once I learn about something the optimizer is doing or about something the CPU is doing, I can't not know about it. Even in cases where I'm like, this is probably not going to make a difference. And I think that that instinct is really the real source of, there's the classic Don Knuth quote, premature optimization through to volleyball.
