Finding Glueballs
It would be almost as big a deal as discovering the Higgs boson if we did find confirmation of a glueball. If you don't find them and you can conclusively say that they do not exist, then maybe we need to rethink our whole model of the universe. But in the end, it's much harder than it is for electromagnetism because it's more complex. Instead of one photon, we have eight gluons of all sorts of different colors sloshing around and banging into each other or confusing each other. It's like having a conversation with eight toddlers at the same time. Every phase is a stream.
