Tiberius Claudius Gervais was born in 10 BC in Gaul. He suffered from some sort of nervous tick that led to a pronounced stutter throughout his youth. His mother Antonia appears to have been horrified by him and showed nothing but disdain for her youngest son. Theories abound about what his affliction actually was, ranging from cerebral palsy to polio to Tourette's.
