The movement known as effective altruism suggesting we should be more rational about how we give away our money still got legs to grow. People do things to appear like they are trying to help but because their audience hardly knows what actually helps they don't pay much attention to doing things that actually help. So overall that would be a way to create a more informed audience is to have more people who were effective altruists. But of course you have to be pretty aware and smart and dedicated in paying attention to actually be someone who knows which charities are how effective.
