Researchers found that students who thought it was an abstract reasoning test, m thought they did much better on it. The look and feel of the test literally changes based on how you think about what you've just experienced. This could be one of the mechanisms that's producig it not differences in actual talent, but differences in perceived talent which cause people to evaluate themselves differently.
