The Myth of Originality

I want to talk about the myth of originality because I think this is something that artists can sometimes, it's a trap that you can kind of fall into mentally. What I mean by that is that your originality is kind of the depth and breadth of your influences. Quentin Tarantino who has this kind of encyclopedic knowledge of film not only uses it, but actually like very brazenly uses it. Woody Allen has talked about how much he's stolen from Berkman or any of the great French directors. George Lucas was ripping off and borrowing from Carafala and Flash Gordon's serials.
