The S&P 500 is at the same level it was one year ago and two years ago so in 24 months absolutely no progress no gains for the S&P. A rangebound market simply conveys that investors are collectively trying to make up their minds sideways trading can presage big turning points but also mark periods when the prevailing trend takes a breather only to get right back on track throughout recent history.
