There's no reason for us to believe any gain in metabolic rate would actually persist and survive that transition as you get into the next weight loss phase. The increase in energy expenditure that we might observe during an overfeeding strategy if we want to call it reverse dieting seems to be an extremely short-term extremely transient effect. People with thrifty phenotypes people who experience the greatest degree of metabolic adaptation have smaller increases in energy expenditure during overfeeding so they're probably less likely to build up their metabolic rate during a reverse dieting type protocol.
