Margaret Hoover: I've been thinking of the question of gender, and so many stories about boys are about them seeking to get away from their communities. She says she thinks there must be other kind of more interesting ways to tell different coming of age stories. Hoover: Historically, that privileged white male perspective really has made up the literary canon. But now we have so many stories by writers of color, international writers, other writers on the margin.
