What to Do in the Heat of the Moment

There are a large number of people here who say that their child won't articulate why they won't do it, won't talk. So what then, should they do in the heat of the momentn to sear two separate issues? Use the escalate, keep everybody safe, and then figure out what sets that unsolved problem in motion in the first place,. so that you can solve it proaccuately  and not in theheat of the moment.
