How to Engage God in the Gospel

I don't think there's any one thing, because texts are all different. So I have to do the apologetic bit often, and certainly the didactic bit, in order to be able to exhort people and hopefully give people a vision of the beauty of Christ. The spectrum from 1 Kings 14 to Romans 8 is pretty wide; you've got to do a lot more work on some passages than others. But that might explain why we preach for 25 to 30 minutes or so each week. It takes me five minutes to read it, and then I want to land with some application, some gospel in there.
