What Demographic Characteristics Increased Risk of Dementia and Mild Cognitive Impairment?
The main risk factor for dementia increasing age was found as expected to be older adults. Hispanic individuals actually had a similar rate of dementia compared to whites in our study but had a significantly higher rate of MCI. Native Americans, Alaskan, Native Asian individuals also had higher risk of dementia overall. Like many prior studies also found that higher levels of education was protective against dementia and MCI.
