The Threat of Islamism

We have a responsibility to use our freedoms to speak out for those who suffer the deprivation of freedoms in other parts of the world. So that's the gender. Moving on to understanding the threat of Islamism or political or militant Islam. There are just one or two key headings here happy to come back to them to amplify and clarify them. First and I think fundamentally traditional Islam is essentially a theocracy and a totalitarian ideology which differs fundamentally from the Hellenistic, Judeo-Christian tradition underpinning the epistemology, theology and political cultures of our own society and their values. And second we need to understand the threat in all its forms in order to develop an appropriate strategic response.
