How to Improve Communication for the Entire World

How did you go from having this massive vision to improve communication for the entire world and whittle that down to a product that would help people fix their grammar mistakes? I mean, did you talk to customers and discover that that's what they wanted? Or was this more you guys looking at what was realistic, given your finances and the technology that was available at the time? A combination of what we could do given the resources we have and what problem would resonate with the target market.
