comprehension consists ofa the ability to understand literal and inferential meaning in a written text. If you don't know what the words are saying, no comprehension strategy in the world is strong enough to make up for thet so from a clinical perspective, there's very few people that ever approach us at lifelong literacy with the desire to increase a child's reading comprehension. What parents recognize is that the children can't decod and that's what we have to fix. And once we fix that, then the reading comprehension bas it becomes easier for them to understand what they read.
