The Importance of a Pharmacist in the Emergency Department for Antimicrobial Stewardship
This chapter emphasizes the value of having a pharmacist in the emergency department (ED) for antimicrobial stewardship, highlighting patient safety, cost, and patient experience as key benefits. Smaller institutions may face challenges, but even having coverage during busy hours is better than none. Hospitals without a pharmacist in the ED are not meeting the standard of care, with literature supporting the significant return on investment.
