The Importance of Separation in the High Priesthood
The importance of main ning distincteness that came with the set apart status of israel was especially pronounced for priests. This would likely also have restricted intermarriage with gentile god fearers who, while true worshippers of the lord, would compromise the covenant status of any children born. The people are here described as the holy seed. Are a holy people and must jealously guard that status. Few things were more important than that the return es not fall into a similar condition.
