Evans: The idea that this should be something where you see this person as going off to some wonderful destination, in part because you're sending them there, screws up the whole reason the state wants this guy dead or woman dead. Evans then points out that this doesn't mean that these people thought the condemned should have no religious consolation, but that it should occur in private.
