The Two Testaments

CHAPTER

The Importance of Illusions in Song 22 on the Cross

Is Jesus lamenting that he feels forsaken by the Father? I think this is the absolute darkest point in this narrative, right? That the son who throughout has had this close relationship with his Father, with God, feels separate from him. Is it like a completely despairing cry with no hope at all? No, I don't think so. Lament is because it is addressed to God. It still turns toward God in prayer. And I think that, again, like the Lord is my shepherd, might bring up all of Psalm 23.
