The Left JSP's Resistance to the Red Purge

After 1950, the polarizing effects of the reactionary turn in Japanese politics favored the left faction with its stance of principled resistance. The right JSP grew moderately after the 1951 split. It sought to promote Western South Social Democracy in Japan. Soho's activism struck a popular chord during the 1950s and succeeded in mobilizing a never-again sentiment against reactionary tendencies.
