Mandalorian - Is There a Connection Between the Empire and the First Order?

The Empire doesn't really appear to be a very big issue right now for the galaxy. There is something that I question about her her background though, because she has those mall DeLorean horns on top of her helmet. If she's not, then is it just the Empire is still a big bad? Because when I came to the season, yeah, I thought it was both a damn. Now we might. The first order uses all the trappings of the Empire. But what is the connection between the Empire and the first order? These are still mysteries in the timeline that need to be forced out.
