The History of Levi Strauss

Levi Strauss was one of three Jewish men named as a member of the Home Guard in San Francisco during the Civil War. The company continued explosive growth right into the 1870s when Levi realized that he needed to expand into international markets. There was also an embezzlement scandal at Levi Strauss and company in October of 1866 when news broke that a bookkeeper had taken $500,000 and left the country.
