Edison's Telephone

In 1877 Joseph Hippel of spruce Mills Iowa had a fully developed scheme for piping music directly to the home rather than to exhibition halls. Edison was in the perfect position to realize the business potential music but he did not telegraphy remained his principal interest around the time of the telephone concerts. He redoubled his efforts to complete a complicated contraption of 30 wheels that would convert taps into unique vibrations for acoustic telegraphy.
