The Different Types of Contraceptives
The pill exerts its contraceptive effect by thickening the mucus so that the sperm crop gets in. It also keeps the lining super thin so that even if a very, very energetic sperm got through, it shouldn't be able to implant. The other thing is that you'll always change as you go through your life. A pill that you liked when you were 16 actually may not suit you at all later on. So I think that we sometimes have to be our own guinea pig.
