Instead of assessing what a debate opponent has said on its own merits, we assume they're wrong. We then try to retroactively justify our assumption by appealing to the person's character or motives. Explains 99 per cent of twitty debatese and this ill settling inwit. I think em you can't really have a decent debate on twitter. It's just not possible. And so people tend to take short cuts because they don't want to argue.
