Chronicles from the future is an intellectual novel, a novel about ideas. I don't think that it was meant to be taken seriously, at least not by the intelligent reader. One of its major inspirations was likely to have been hp Lovecraft's the shadow out of time. Another might have been gerda's the sorrows of young verder.
