CHAPTER

The Power Law of Practice and the Power of Emotion

The idea that our cognitive system did not emerge in a vacuum rather it evolved to deal with the environment in which we evolved. That environment has a number of very pervasive regularity so like two of them for example I call the power law of practice and the power law forgetting. The more often you use something or you see something the more likely it is to be useful again in the future. Those very pervasive regularities of our statistical environment have been incorporated into the mechanism of the cognitive architecture. It's extremely useful both to model cognitive human cognition as it is but also potentially to provide mechanisms for developing AI engines and AI architectures.
