The law of moses was meant to be and has been lost. Love god and love your neighbour seems like a higher way to restate the ten o'clock beatitude. If you bring thy gift to the altar, and thou rememberest that thy brother hath aught against thee, leave thy gift and go fix it. That's not him instituting a new higher law. Its res ring the significance of the law and points to what the law of m Moses was meant to do at least in bringing a gift to the table.
