Orleans and the Palais Royal

When his father died in 17 85, louis philippe became the duc de orleans and first prince of the blood. He also inherited the palais royal, a huge palace just a few blocks from the tuileri in paris. One of the subtle little quirks of antion regime law was that royal residences were not subject to official censorship laws. The arcades of the pala is soon brimming with shops and cafes and books, pamphlets and newspapers which advocated all kinds of crazy stuff at will.
