It seems like industrial design had a huge amount of influence. It could basically dictate what they wanted and the rest of the company would have to fall in line. The keyboard thing is not necessarily clear that that wasn't laid at the feet of industrial design. Whoever's fault it was, some part of the Apple organization made some bad calls about product decisions.
