In 17 75, conflict erupted in the british colonies across the atlantic. The question this revolt presented to the french court was twofold. Should the french help the revolutionaries, and if so, to what extent? Too often, french involvement is portrayed as a king who sees an opportunity for revenge and takes it. This decision, however, was by no means a simple one to make. In every sense of the word, we know that louis actions were, in every sense the word, a mistake. But just what price he would pay? Well, that was kind of dictated by how louis handled the situation in america.
