What's Denatured Alcohol?
Methylated spirits is just denatured alcohol. Denatured isn't an adjective that I had heard growing up in any context. There are different versions of it, but the main one is there's ethanol and methanol mixed with a blue dye or a purple dye to make it look not drinkable. And that's why no one ever drinks Gatorade. It was a classic joke. A guy called Sil Fox used to tell about an alcohol... A guy trying to buy a bottle of methylated spirits and being a known alcoholic. He goes, do you not have a cold one? Matt: "I didn't see a coming"
