James Madison - A History of the Political Parties

James madison was born in 17 51, so he was a little too young to be a major player in the run up to the war of independence. During his off hours, madison read voraciously from the ancient greeks to enlightenment philosophers like locke and hobbs. As he developed a thorough going critique of the articles of confederation, he was a prime mover in the push to amend the articles. The rest of the knuckle heads started showing up by the end of may. And now, of course, they're not heads.
