In colonial settings you don't really settle, not for more than a year or two of growingand where land is essentially regarded as abundant. In the older regimes of property rights in europe they are actually much more expansive. So all of those thits kind of a kaleidoscope different meanings that you could associate with land. And i think if you think about the way in which modern americans or europeans think about property, it is not entirely fair to say that all that's left is investment.
