The Machine Stops by E. M. Forster
Gandhi almost certainly took his ideas from E. M. Forster, the English novelist. He foresaw a world in which machinery and interconnecting tubing allows human beings to communicate with each other from inside their little pods. Gandhi is nothing like Marx and Engels - for him politics was not about class.
