The Structure of Bone Heaps

Kate Scott's hypothesis is that Neanderthal people were working cooperatively and driving herds of mammoth off the cliffs to their death in a ravine. The woolly rhinosterouses maybe got caught up in the stampede, she says. And then when these animals die, they're butchered, they're extensively processed, and then the bone elements are stacked on top of each other crossways. So it looks like a prime, what we call a primary butchery signature, they're butchering where they killed it. We've got no way of knowing whether we're right or Kate's wrong here. It's just an alternative idea about how this hunting process may have occurred over time
